The Finishing Sequence

The finishing sequence of this fight was beautiful work by Charles Johnson. He starts by throwing a rear straight to the body from southpaw, pauses, then shows the rear hand which sets up the lead hook to the head which hurts Josh Van. As Van is reeling from the lead hook, he begins to back up on a line. In Van’s three UFC fights, backing up on a line is his main defense. Johnson chooses the perfect follow up, he double jabs into a long rear uppercut (Video 1). The double jab serves to keep his feet under him while putting Johnson in a position to capitalize on a retreating opponent.
